Deep Movement
Like an apple tree produces apples, the state of our nervous system produces the types of actions we take and perceptions we experience. To create significant changes in how we move, we must look at what is behind the “fruit” of our nervous system. The Deep Movement module explores movement from a psycho-physiological perspective, looking at how several key systems interact to produce our general attitude.
With this orientation, the Deep Emergence module shares work on several of the primary systems that govern action and perception. These include the eyes, the vestibular system, the use of the breath, muscular effort, cybernetic conflict and the construction of sensorimotor beliefs.
The work is divided into two phases, each sharing exercises on the aforementioned systems, as well as recommended reading. Phase one shares lessons on the eyes, the breath and the vestibular system, using exercises and games to learn, integrate and explore. Phase two shares work on muscular effort, physics and self-conflict, using elements of contemporary dance, biomechanics and parkour.
